The UFC Is Making Moves
Covid-19 has dramatically interrupted the sports world. Things such as shorter seasons, games being canceled and not being able to enter stadiums have been the result. However, the UFC has not slowed down. Instead, it introduced something new which is Fight Island. Dana White, president of the UFC, introduced Fight Island in Abu Dhabi and is a secluded area to protect from the virus.
The Fight Island debut is amongst the highest purchased pay-per-views in sports with $1.3 million revenued. This card featured some of the main stars in the business such as Kamaru Usman, Jorge Masvidal, Jose Aldo and Max Halloway. White will continue to put on spectacular cards as COVID-19 continues.
What’s To Come
Next week will feature another big card with UFC 252 featuring Stipe Miocic vs Daniel Cormier as this will be the trilogy fight. This card will also have Junior Dos Santos and rising star Sean O’Malley who adds to the excitement in this card.
Along with that card is UFC 253 which will take place on September 19 and has Israel Adesanya vs Paulo Costa and Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje as the main events. This is a fight that a lot of people have been waiting for due to the beef between these fighters. It’s expected for the UFC to generate a lot of revenue from both of these events. A lot of hype has been built up.
The Separation
Sports such as the NBA and MLB have gained a lot of attention because of the return. However, none have been able to keep it. The UFC keeps its viewers because of the anticipation and the way they have been staying safe from the virus. That’s what separates it from other sports because no one has really complained about the UFC. However, when teams in the NBA and MLB are struggling to play because teams test positive, it frustrates the fans. White looks forward to making the UFC one of the most popular sports today as the UFC has not slowed down yet.
