The New York Liberty Reload for 2024 Season

Publish Date: February 29, 2024

The New York Liberty returns their starting lineup for the 2024 season after making their first finals appearance since 2002.

The Liberty re-signed Breanna Stewart on a one-year deal. Stewart was cored during free agency meaning the Liberty had exclusive negotiating rights on her. Stewart signed below the league supermax and on a non-guaranteed deal.

The Current Roster

Jonquel Jones also re-signed with the Liberty this free agency period. Jones signed a two-year deal through 2025. Courtney Vandersloot is currently in her second and final year of the two year deal she signed with the Liberty last February. Sabrina Ionescu, Betnijah Laney and Kayla Thornton are all in their multi-year extension contracts through the 2025 season. Lastly, Nyara Sabally is still under her 3 year rookie scale contract from March of 2023.

The Liberty lost Stefanie Dolson this offseason to the Washington Mystics. Dolson was with the Liberty for two seasons after winning a championship with the Chicago Sky. She started every game during the 2022 season but transitioned to a reserve role in 2023 after the Liberty’s huge offseason pickups in 2023. Dolson is likely looking for a more prominent role with the Mystics.

The Liberty also added guards Kennedy Burke and Ivana Dojkic and signed forward Leonie Fiebich to a training camp contract. Marine Johannès’ status is still unclear but she is not listed on the Liberty’s roster currently. The France native was the sixth woman for the team and played with a certain flair and style that is irreplicable.

The 2024 Season Awaits

The Liberty fell to the Aces 3-1 in the 2023 Finals in a disappointing ending to the best season the franchise has seen in a long time. There were definitely some bumps as these stars had to discover their new roles on the team. But with more time to build chemistry the team will be even stronger this year. The Liberty are still seeking their first franchise championship.
