Saturday night, the Sharks beat the Ducks 5-3. In the second period three time all-star, John Gibson saw a familiar sight as he looked up to see his team down 1-0. Marc-Edouard Vlasic would score the first of five goals on the night for the Sharks.
The second period saw a flurry of action in the final five minutes after the first of the games 25 minutes were scoreless.
Each team managed to score twice within 15 seconds with just 4:54 left in the second period. The first goal being the Vlasic wrist shot. Sharks captain Logan Couture, who was playing in his first game of the year, had the assist.
Just 15 seconds later Jackson LaCombe would knot things up for Anaheim.
The Sharks would go up 3-1 after goals from Kyle Burroughs and Fabian Zetterlund.
Anaheim showed signs of life to end the second. Troy Terry led the Anaheim rush into the offensive zone with just 15 seconds left. As Terry flew in behind the net he pushed the puck into the slot to an open Adam Henrique, who scored with just four seconds left in the period.
The rival squads ended the second in a tight 3-2 battle.
In the third the high scoring action continued. Gibson continued to make highlight stops in net including a post to post save and a quick stop of the rebound attempt that followed at 4:56 in the third.
However, Jan Rutta would put the sharks up 4-2 with a wrist shot. Again, Anaheim who has played from behind often this season did all they could to stay in the game.
2021 third overall pick Mason McTavish got Anaheim back in striking distance with just 4:49 left in the game. Troy Terry would pick up his second assist on the night.
Unfortunately for Anaheim, another goal would not come. Gibson would go to the bench for the extra skater, but Tomas Hertl would add an empty netter for San Jose thwarting any would be comebacks.
This is the second Ducks loss in a row, however for the first time in two weeks they managed to create more shots than their opponents. The young Ducks were firing as they put up an impressive 32 shots, but the defense were sitting Ducks in Shark infested waters.
The Ducks return home tonight to take on the Metropolitan leading Rangers. The Rangers are two games into a west coast road trip which has seen a losses to L.A. and Vegas. You can catch the game at 8:30 P.M. EST, 5:30 P.M. PST on BSSD, BSSC, ESPN+ NHL Power Play, Hulu Live and MSG.
