Sean O’Malley to Wear Custom Shorts for First Title Defense

Publish Date: March 8, 2024

The Suga Show is in full-effect this weekend for UFC 299, ahead of the champion’s first title defense. The UFC and Sean O’Malley recently revealed a custom Venum fight kit. The champion will wear the uniform on Saturday night in his bantamweight title bout against Marlon “Chito” Vera. The pink shorts with gold trim is the appearance O’Malley has been looking forward to wearing since becoming champion. Producer for “The MMA Hour” Conner Burks, had previously mentioned a potential venture into custom pink shorts for O’Malley quite some time ago. The concept has now turned into a reality, and O’Malley’s star power continues to rise. He takes on Marlon Vera this Saturday, at UFC 299 live from Miami, Florida.

Will Custom Shorts Continue to be Allowed?

The debate regarding the UFC’s approval of custom Venum Shorts has grown exponentially over the last year. It originally began with featherweight contender, Bryce Mitchell. The athlete made a request for a custom pair of camouflage shorts to compete inside of the octagon with. Mitchell’s request was evidently granted by Dana White and the UFC. After Mitchell, it was former two-time middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya in his match versus Sean Strickland. One of, if not the biggest stars within the entire promotion. Now, it’s Sean O’Malley at UFC 299 with the pink Venum shorts. There’s plenty of fans who love the idea of custom fight kits. However, there are others who disagree and believe that champions should wear black & gold, while contenders can choose based off the original selection of colors. Where do you stand as a fan in this heavily argued debate?
