The Giants have acquired Scooter Gennett, source tells The Athletic.
Scooter Gennett is struggling this season, batting .212/.232/.258 and no homeruns through only 20 games played. He’s been injured, which is perhaps a reason for his lackluster 2019. In his career however, he has a solid line of .287/.329/.451. The Giants are hoping that the Scooter Gennett that shows up is the latter of the two. The Giants are only 2 1/2 games back in the NL Wild Card at the time of the trade. The team did sell at the deadline, but they kept Bumgarner so it’s possible this club is still playing for an October run this season.
The Reds will receive a player to be named later. Moreover, the Giants received cash along with Gennett.
