The Philadelphia Eagles played their first preseason game against the Jets last Friday night in Philadelphia. This article will take you through a brief recap and discuss the offensive and defensive standouts for the Eagles in this game. This is a recap of the Philadelphia Eagles’ first preseason game.
Brief Game Recap
This game saw the Eagles get off to a hot start as they scored touchdowns on their first two possessions. The possessions were led first by Jalen Hurts and then by Gardner Minshew. After that, the Eagles struggled to get anything going on offense that was mostly led by third-sting quarterback Reid Sinnett. The Jets would eventually take a 17-14 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
The Eagles, however, would manage to score another touchdown late in the fourth quarter to take the lead back. The Jets would then have one final opportunity to win the game with a little over a minute left. They took that opportunity and ran with it by scoring a touchdown with 16 seconds left in the game. The Jets would ultimately win this game 24-21.
Offensive Standouts for the Eagles
Even though the Eagles lost, there was still a lot to take away from this game. We will start the play of Jalen Hurts who has had a lot of criticism before this game. This Criticism obviously did not get to him, as he led the Eagles to a perfect first drive. He looked comfortable in the pocket and was very sharp throwing the ball. Hurts had 80 yards passing and one touchdown. The Eagles took him out after the first possession. Another player that really impressed was Zach Pascal who the Eagles acquired through the offseason. He had two receptions for 41 yards. He was the Eagles leading receiver in yardage. Pascal showed toughness by getting extra yardage by lowering his shoulder on one of his receptions. He would get two or three more yards by doing that.
Another player to mention is running back Jason Huntley. He was toting the rock for most of this game. He had 48 yards and one touchdown. Huntley showed off his speed and showed that he could make plays. Not to mention, he even saw action on special teams and impressed in that department. He had an electric 45-yard punt return. He totaled 61 yards in punt returns at the end of it all.
Defensive Standouts
The defense also had a lot of players that stepped up in this one. The first player that made an impact right away is LB Kyzir White. He picked off a pass from Zach Wilson very early in the game. This ultimately led to the Eagles’ second touchdown of the game. He would end up having that pick and one tackle. Furthermore, Reed Blankenship also had a good game. He is a rookie safety out of Middle Tennessee. He led the Eagles in tackles with six and had two assists. If he keeps up the production, then we could see him on that 53-man roster.
Nakobe Dean also looked comfortable in an NFL uniform. He did a good job reading plays and using his speed and quickness to get the tackles. He had five tackles in this game. He really compliments Jordan Davis well, that duo is going to wreak offenses havoc in the future on defense. Furthermore, former Texas Tech cornerback Zech McPherson was all over the field this game. He ended up with three tackles in the game. He could be a solid starter for the Eagles in the future. Finally, Rookie Josh Jobe out of Alabama proved his worth in this game by racking up five tackles. Jobe and Blankenship thus far seem to be great rookie additions to the Eagles secondary.
This concludes this recap on the Philadelphia Eagles preseason game against the New York Jets.
