The Philadelphia Eagles fell short this past Saturday losing to the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 34-40. This gives the Eagles their second loss of the season and keeps the Cowboys alive in the division. However, the Eagles only need to win one more game to clinch home-field advantage in the playoffs. This article will recap Philadelphia Eagles Week 16 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Eagles did not have a hard time moving the ball on offense. Philadelphia relied on the arm of Gardner Minshew, who did a good job for it being his first action of the season. He replaced Jalen Hurts who was out of this game with a sprained shoulder. Minshew threw for 355 yards and had two touchdowns. His first touchdown was a 14-yard pass to Devonta Smith that would put the Eagles up by ten points with nine minutes to go in the third. Minshew’s second touchdown pass would come in the fourth quarter. Minshew would find DeVonta Smith again which would put the Eagles up 34-27. Minshew would also score a touchdown on the ground through a quarterback sneak at the beginning of the game. The Eagles’ backup quarterback did struggle some in this game. He gave up two interceptions that would ultimately lead to Dallas points
The leading receiver was DeVonta Smith. He ended the day with 113 yards and those two touchdowns. A.J. Brown was second-leading receiver with over 100 yards receiving. Dallas Goedert also came back after being out with an injury the past few weeks. He had 67 yards receiving and really helped keep drives alive for the Eagles.
The Eagles really did not have their best game on the ground once again. Miles Sanders had 21 carries for 65 yards. He only averaged three yards a carry. Sanders also fumbled in this game. Turnovers by the Eagles’ offense is one of the main factors in Dallas winning this game. The Eagles ended the day with 87 total rushing yards as an offense.
The defense really had a hard time stopping the Cowboys on offense. Dallas scored 40 points on the Eagles. Philadelphia had a hard time stopping CeeDee Lamb. He found a way to burn the Eagles in the inside part of the field the whole game. Lamb ended the day with 120 yards and two touchdowns. Even with Lamb having a big game.
The defense did do a lot of good though. The Eagles sacked Dak Prescott six times. Hassan Reddick led the team in sacks with two. Josh Sweat and Avonte Maddox also had sacks in this game. The leading tackler in this game was T.J. Edwards. He had 14 total tackles on the afternoon. Reed Blankenship was the second-leading tackler with eight. He continues to do good things for this Eagles’ defense. The Defense also forced a turnover. Josh Sweat came up with a huge pick-six early in the game that would give the Eagles an early ten point lead.
