The Philadelphia Eagles (8-0) are taking on the Washington Commanders (4-5) this Monday night on primetime television. These teams have already met once this year in Week 3. The Eagles handled the Commanders quite easily by a score of 24-8. However, it is harder to beat a team twice, which will be the task of the Eagles come Monday night. This article will preview the Philadelphia Eagles Week 10 matchup against the Washington Commanders.
The Washington Commanders are dealing with quarterback issues, which seems to be a normal thing for them over the past couple of years. Carson Wentz is sidelined with a fractured ring finger. This means that Taylor Heinicke will be starting for the Commanders this Monday night. Heinicke has done pretty good thus far. He won his first two games as the Commanders starting quarterback against the Colts and the Green Bay Packers. However last week, Washington had a setback against a good Vikings team. Heinicke has 629 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions on the season.
Washington also has a great weapon in Terry McLauren at receiver. He is fast and is a good route runner that can create separation from defenders. He has 609 receiving yards and two touchdowns on the season. Washington also has running back Antonio Gibson who is not having the season he had a year ago. He only has 328 rushing yards and two touchdowns. It will be a difficult task for the Commanders to overcome Philadelphia on the road Monday night.
As said at the beginning, Philadelphia has seen the Commanders once before in the regular season. This could make the game a bit closer than the first one only because Washington is already familiar with this Eagles team. However, one could say this Eagles team is a lot better than the Week 3 Eagles team.
Their defense has been clicking on all Cylinders. Their pass-rushing ability is way better than it was last season. The Eagles are top 10 in sacks this year in the NFL. Javon Hargraves has become one of the Eagles’ top defensive players. He has 21 tackles and six sacks on the season. The Eagles will need to keep that up against this Washington team. It will be key to make Taylor Heinke as uncomfortable in the pocket as possible. Furthermore, safety C.J. Gardner Johnson has been on fire recently. Gardner-Johnson has five interceptions this season, which have all come in the last few weeks. The defense will be the key to victory against the Washington Commanders.
On offense, Philadelphia needs to do what they have been doing all season. Hurts has been great at getting the ball to his weapons. A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith are both giving the Eagles a lot of production. Brown has been unstoppable as of recently. He already has 718 yards and six touchdowns on the season. Furthermore, Dallas Goedert is also on top of his game. He burned the Texans’ defense last week with 100 yards receiving and one touchdown. Lastly, the Eagles’ ground game is still one of the best in the NFL. Miles Sanders has scored a touchdown in his last three games. He has 656 yards and six touchdowns on the season.
The Eagles have the most momentum coming into this game. They should pull out the victory at the end of the night. Philadelphia wins by 10 points when it is all said and done. This concludes this Philadelphia Eagles Week 10 preview.
