Philadelphia Eagles Week 10 Game Recap

Publish Date: November 16, 2022

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered their first defeat of the season against the Washington Commanders this past weekend. The Eagles could not get anything going all game, and turnovers hurt this team throughout the game. This article will recap this Philadelphia Eagles Week 10 game against the Washington Commanders

The Eagles made too many Mistakes

One of the biggest reasons the Eagles lost this game was because of turnovers. Three came from fumbles by DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins and Dallas Goedert. The Watkins turnover was the worse of them all. He caught a long pass from Hurts that would have put the Eagles in great position to score and take the lead with 5 minutes left in the game. However, as soon as Watkins got hit the ball popped out and a Washington defender recovered it. Furthermore, Hurts also made a crucial mistake in this game. He tried taking a shot down the field, but he threw the ball into double coverage, and it got intercepted. This was a rare turnover by Hurts as he only had two on the season before this game.

Turnovers were not the only thing that doomed the Eagles in this game. The Eagles had 75 yards worth of penalties in this game which is just an awful stat. This is the definition of shooting yourself in the foot. The Eagles would have momentum, but a silly penalty would kill that momentum and move the Eagles behind the chains.

The Eagles’ offense did not look explosive

The Commanders really shut down a key part of the offense, which is the receivers. A.J. Brown was a non-factor in this game, which was a surprise too many. He only had seven yards receiving. However, Devonta Smith did some damage in this game with a touchdown, but that was about it. He only had 39 yards receiving. Quez Watkins bailed the Eagles out a lot in this game. He picked up some of the slack in terms of yardage. He had 80 yards in this game. However, his fumble late in the game really overshadows his performance.

Another aspect of the Eagles’ game that really did not do the Eagles any favors was their rushing attack. Miles Sanders only had 54 yards on 12 carries in this game. Jalen Hurts was the second-leading rusher with 28 yards and a touchdown. The Eagles as a team rushed for less the 100 yards total, which is another rarity in this game for the Eagles.

Conclusion

It is hard to go undefeated in the NFL. There is just too much talent in this league. A loss was going to come at some point for the Eagles. Not many people chose the Commanders to give the Eagles that first loss though.  However, it makes perfect sense why the Commanders were that team. They were the first divisional team to play the Eagles twice. Washington fixed their mistakes from the previous game against Philly and had a perfect game plan. The Eagles’ schedule only gets more challenging form here. They still have two games against a surprising Giants team and one more game against the Cowboys. The Giants are a team that could win the division if the Eagles are not careful. But for right now, the Eagles need prepare for the Colts. This concludes this Philadelphia Eagles Week 10 recap
