Philadelphia Eagles Week 1 Recap

Publish Date: September 14, 2022

The Eagles played their first game of the season against the Detroit Lions this past weekend. This game had a lot of exciting moments and was interesting throughout. This game saw the Eagles put up a lot of points on offense while their defense left more to be desired.  Philadelphia did win this game by a score of 38-35. This article recaps the Philadelphia Eagles Week one game against the Detroit Lions

The Eagles Defense

The Eagles’ defense really gave up a lot of points in this game. The X factor for the Lions was D’Andre Swift. He gashed the Eagles’ defense with 144 yards rushing yards and one touchdown. Furthermore, the Lions totaled 181 rushing yards. Furthermore, Lions QB Jared Goff really did not have an outstanding game. He had 215 yards 2 touchdowns and one pick-six courtesy of James Bradberry, who signed with the Eagles during the offseason. Not to mention, the Eagles also have Darius Slay, so the two of them together will cause problems for opposing defenses all year.

As for tackles, Marcus Epps was the leading tackler with ten. Another player that played well is Kyzir White. He tipped the Goff interception which went into the hands of Bradberry. He was also good against the run. The signing of White turned out to be huge for this Eagles’ defense. The Eagles have a tougher opponent in the Minnesota Vikings, who beat the Green Bay Packers this past weekend. The defense will have to play better if they are going to beat the Vikings.

The Eagles Offense

Jalen Hurts also had a good game, he avoided turnovers which is a huge plus. He had 242 passing yards and no passing touchdowns. Hurts also ran the ball a lot which bailed out the Eagles’ offense a lot in this game. Hurts rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown. He was one of the difference makers in this game. The biggest difference maker in this game was A.J. Brown. Brown totaled 155 yards receiving. The Eagles wide receiver burned the defense by catching intermediate passes and long passes throughout the game. He will be one Hurts’s favorite weapons all year.

The Eagles’ offense also did not shy away from their rushing offense, which was the best in the NFL last year. All the running backs scored a touchdown in this game. Miles Sanders was the leading rusher with 96 yards. While Kenneth Gainwell rushed for 20 yards and Boston Scott rushed for ten yards. The Eagles totaled 216 total rushing yards at the of it all.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Eagles were great on offense and really bailed out the Eagles’ defense. It would have been nice to see other receivers involved in this game. Devonta Smith was only targeted four times, which is not a lot. At one point he did make a catch for ten yards, but it got called back because of a penalty. Furthermore, Philadelphia had 61 yards in penalties which will need to be cleaned up for the next game. A lot of it was probably first-game jitters. The bottom line is that the Eagles did win, which is hard to do in the NFL.

This concludes this Philadelphia Eagles week one recap against the Detroit Lions.
