Philadelphia Eagles Game Recap: Week 2

Publish Date: September 20, 2022

The Philadelphia Eagles faced the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night. This was a game where the Eagles dominated throughout. Philadelphia clicked all cylinders whether it was on defense or on offense. The final score of this game was 24-7. This article will recap the Philadelphia Eagles Week 2 game against the Vikings.

Hurts had a Spectacular Game

It is early in the season, but Jalen Hurts looked like a franchise quarterback on Monday Night. This game showed that Hurts can perform whether it is passing or running the ball.  He passed for 333 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Hurts made good decisions with the ball and was accurate throughout. He did have one hiccup in the fourth quarter. It was a short screen pass to Kenneth Gainwell. Gainwell tipped the pass and it fell right into the hands of a Viking defender.

Hurts also had a great day running the ball. He had two rushing touchdowns during this game. Hurts showed how strong he was by powering his way into the end zone on one touchdown. This is a trait that fans forget about this young quarterback. People know him mostly for his speed, but he is also strong. He ended the day being the Eagles’ second-leading rusher in this game with 57 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles’ Defense

Philadelphia gave up a lot of points and yardage in their week one game against the Lions. However, Philadelphia improved on defense this time around. First off, the Eagles held the Vikings running game in check. Dalvin Cook was not a factor in this game as he had 17 yards rushing.  In fact, the Eagles allowed 62 yards total on the ground. The Eagles also held off the Vikings’ potent passing attack.  Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson was held to 48 passing yards. Darius Slay was on Jefferson most of the game really kept him in check.

As for tackling, TJ Edwards was the leader with 10 total tackles, one pass deflection and one tackle for a loss. Avonte Maddox was right behind him with eight total tackles. Overall, the Eagles held the Vikings to 264 yards of total offense which is stellar. It was really a complete game on defense

The Eagles’ Receivers

Dallas Goedert made a statement in this game as he was the leading receiver with 82 yards. He has become one of the more dangerous tight ends in the league. Behind him in yardage is Devonta Smith. He was really a non-factor in the Eagles Week one game against the Lions. It is good to see the Eagles got him involved in this game. He had 80 yards on the night.

Furthermore, Quez Watkins showed that he deserved a starting receiver role. Watkins caught a long 53-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts. He will fly under the radar with defenses, which makes him dangerous. He had 69 yards total by the end of the night. Lastly, A.J. Brown became a normal human being in this game. He didn’t put up the numbers like he did in Week One. However, he did have a solid game with 69 receiving yards.

Overall, the Eagles played well on Monday night. Their next game will be away against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. This concludes this Philadelphia Eagles game recap for Week 2.
