Ohio State Hires Greg Mattison as Defensive Coordinator

Ohio State has hired Michigan defensive line coach Greg Mattison to be their new defensive coordinator according to 247 sports.

Mattison helped a Michigan defense to allow just 19.4 points per game in 2018. He was formerly a defensive coordinator for Michigan, the Baltimore Ravens and a co-defensive coordinator for the Florida Gators. He helped Florida win a National Championship.

Defensive Coordinator Greg Schiano will not return to Ohio State next season according to Rivals’ Marc Givler.

Schiano was hired in 2016 to be the Ohio State defensive coordinator and associate head coach. Since taking the job, Schiano has been a reported candidate for other jobs with teams, including the New England Patriots (defensive coordinator) and Tennessee Volunteers (head coach).

Ohio State was tied for 51st in scoring defense at 25.5 points per game allowed in 2018.
