Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has cleared waivers. If a team were to have picked him up on the waiver wire, he would be owed over $7 million for the remaining nine games of the 2021 season. Now, he is eligible to be signed as a free agent, which would necessitate a new (likely cheaper) contract.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
Former #Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr has cleared waivers, per me and @MikeGarafolo. He’s a free agent for the first time in his career.

Beckham has played in six games during the 2021 season. In those games, he has amassed only 232 yards and zero touchdowns. Prior to his release, Beckham’s father posted an 11 minute compilation of him being open and not being thrown the ball during his time with the Browns. Speculation points to this being a key factor as to why he was released.
Cleveland went on to win their first matchup after Beckham’s release in convincing fashion, scoring 41 points against the division rival Bengals. The wide receiver has said he wishes to sign with a Super Bowl contender. There have been multiple teams reportedly in the running to add Beckham’s services, including the Seahawks, the Saints and the Packers, among others.
