The injury bug has struck the Atlanta Falcons secondary heading into the upcoming season. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport has reported that safety J.J. Wilcox tore his ACL during practice on Monday. The injury will sideline Wilcox for the 2019 season.

The 2018 season was nothing short of injury-plagued for the Falcons. Defensive backs Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen were sidelined early last season, which ultimately led to Wilcox’s signing in April. As stated by Rapoport, Wilcox was in line to be the team’s No. 3 safety.
In 2018, Wilcox served as a backup with the Indianapolis Colts as well as the New York Jets. The Falcons signed the safety to a one-year deal as a way to add depth to the team’s secondary. Now that Wilcox will miss the 2019 season, the Falcons are spread thin defensively once again.
