NFL: The season of broken records and milestones

This season has been one for the books- literally. So far this season a new record has been broken or milestones have been hit every week. And there could easily be more to come in Week 5. As well as the rest of the season.

Broken Records

So far this season

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers signs a contract to become the highest paid player in NFL history. He will make nearly $180 million over four years.

Rams DE Aaron Donald signs a contract to become the highest paid defensive player in NFL history. The contract is for six years and $135 million. He was later surpassed by Khalil Mack, who signed a six-year $141 million deal with the Bears.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes threw for 13 touchdown passes in three weeks, breaking former Broncos QB Peyton Manning’s record of 12.

Saints QB Drew Brees passed former Packers QB Brett Favre for most completions in NFL history. Favre had 6,300, while Brees is now up to 6,344. Image result for drew brees

There were 3,030 points scored through Week 4, which is the most in NFL history.

Through four weeks, 344 touchdowns were scored, the most in NFL history.

There were also 228 touchdown passes through Week 4, which is also the most in NFL history.

Colts Kicker Adam Vinatieri has made the most field goals ever with 567. He passed Morten Andersen, who totaled 565 in his career.

Saints RB Alvin Kamara is the first player in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards and have over 1,000 receiving yards in his first 20 career games.

Patriots QB Tom Brady has thrown touchdowns to a record-breaking 71 different receivers.

Up and coming 

Saints QB Drew Brees can pass former Broncos QB Peyton Manning for most career passing yards ever. Brees currently sits third with 71,740. Manning (71,940) and Brett Favre (71,838) sit ahead of him on this list.

Colts Kicker Adam Vinatieri can become the NFL’s all-time leading scorer. Vinatieri has 2,519 points and trails Moren Andersen, who has 2,544 career points.

Panthers DE Julius Peppers is 5.5 sacks out of third place on the all-time sacks list. He is chasing Kevin Greene who has 160 career sacks. Also higher on the list, are Bruce Smith (200) and Reggie White (198).

Patriots QB Tom Brady can hold the record for most touchdown passes with 40, Saints QB Drew Brees is right behind him with needing 44. Peyton Manning (539) and Brett Favre (508) rank ahead of the two Hall of Famers currently.

Milestones

So far this season

Saints QB Drew Brees passed Former Packers QB Brett Favre for second overall in passing yards.

Steelers WR Antonio Brown hit 10,000 receiving yards.

Patriots QB Tom Brady hits 500 career passing TDs.

Possible up and coming

Saints QB Drew Brees is four away from 500 passing TDs.

Redskins’ running back Adrian Peterson is just one rushing touchdown away from 100.

Buccaneers WR DeSean Jackson needs 89 receiving yards to reach 10,000.

Falcons WR Julio Jones needs 444 receiving yards to reach 10,000.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is 368 passing yards away from hitting 40,000.

Oakland FS Reggie Nelson is three interceptions away from hitting 40, the most among active players.
