This season, the Indiana Pacers will have another Holiday on their roster. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Pacers have signed forward Justin Holiday to a one-year, $4.8 million deal.
Holiday last played for the Memphis Grizzlies, where he averaged 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds. The Grizzlies acquired him in a trade with the Chicago Bulls. The Grizzlies received Holiday in exchange for MarShon Brooks, Wayne Selden Jr. and two future second-round draft picks.
Holiday came into the summer as a free agent. According to Kevin Pelton of ESPN, Holiday had unrealistic salary expectations, which kept him in the free-agent market. But Holiday and the Pacers reached an agreement.
The 30-year-old forward joins new additions such as Malcolm Brogdon and Jeremy Lamb, who agreed to deals with the Pacers earlier this summer. He also joins his younger brother Aaron Holiday. Holiday was the 23rd pick of the 2018 NBA Draft and joined his older brothers (Justin and Jrue) in the NBA. He played 50 games and averaged 5.9 points in 12.9 minutes last season. He is expected to have a more significant role this season.
Holiday has had an interesting journey in his NBA career. He went undrafted in 2011 but found a home with the Golden State Warriors (and their G-League affiliate the Santa Cruz Warriors). He won a championship during his time with the Warriors despite a limited role. Then, Holiday played with the Hawks, Knicks, the Bulls (for two stints) and the Grizzlies. Now, he joins his brother in Indiana.
The Holidays could play a significant role in the Pacers’ success this season. If they play well, both can find themselves in the Pacers rotation. All they need is the chance.
