Luis Robert Leaves Game Early in Another Losing Effort in Glendale

Publish Date: October 14, 2018

White Sox prospect Luis Robert left the game early in another losing effort. Robert is playing in the Arizona Fall League after injuries limited him 50 games during the season. Robert had to leave the game after running out a fielders choice in the 7th inning. It appears to be a hamstring issue and the team will reevaluate Robert soon.

Luis Robert Leaves Game Early

Robert was playing DH for Friday’s game against the Surprise Saguaros. He finished the game going 1 for 3 with no RBIs or strikeouts. He was able to walk off the field under his own power.

The injury does not seem to be too concerning at the moment but considering Robert’s issues this past season in the minors this is surely disappointing for the Sox fanbase. The Arizona Fall League only runs until November 15th, so even if he misses a week or so it will take a dent out of the potential development the White Sox were looking for.

Due to Robert’s injury, he did not participate in the Bowman Hitting Challenge on Saturday. In the 4 games he has played so far, Robert is 5-17 with 2 RBIs, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. This has produced a slash line of .294 AVG/.333 OBP/.294 SLG, Luis does not have an extra base hit yet.

Notable Performances From Friday’s Game

Glendale’s left fielder Cody Thomas turned in a 2 for 4 showing in the losing effort. Glendale lost the game 4-1, the only RBI for Glendale was driven in by right fielder Conor Marabell. Marabell has a rough start to the game striking out in each of his first three appearances but came up in the 6th with an RBI triple. Friday’s loss moves Glendale’s record to 0-4.

Pitchers Taner Banks and Zack Burdi turned in good performances on the mound. Banks pitched 2 scoreless innings in the 4th and 5th. He finished with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk using 37 pitches, 21 of which were strikes.

White Sox prospect Zack Burdi is currently ranked 17th in the White Sox system although this ranking has declined due to the Tommy John surgery he had. Burdi is still one of the best minor league relief prospects in baseball. Burdi pitched 1 inning allowing 1 walk and striking out 2. Burdi will be one of the prospects most fans will keep an eye on as he has a good chance of joining the Sox pen in 2019.
