Anaheim was blanked by the Seattle Kraken 4-0.
Scoring for Seattle were four different scorers. Matty Beniers and Eeli Tolvanen each had a goal and two assists earning first and second stars of the game. Oliver Bjorkstrand and Jordan Eberle added goals for the Kraken as well. It was Joey Daccord picking up the shutout win for his 18th win of the season.
In the first Eeli Tolvanen got the night started for Seattle with his wrist shot down low in the slot after a pass from Matty Beniers at 7:50 in the first.
After a Jackson Lacombe tripping penalty led to a Kraken power play Jordan Eberle would score making things 2-0 with 3:09 remaining in the first period.
Unfortunately for the Ducks the second period would go a lot like the first.
5:08 into the second another power play for the Kraken would lead to their third goal. Eeli Tolvanen would serve up a pass to Oliver Bjorkstrand for a snap shot one timer that would beat the left shoulder of John Gibson.
Then with 4:05 left in the period Matty Beniers would score the games final goal. A Ducks turnover in their offensive zone would lead to a three on one in the other direction and Eeli Tolvanen would find a wide open Beniers whose snap shot made things 4-0.
This is Anaheim’s second straight loss and ninth in their last ten games.
John Gibson had a tough night on goal facing an onslaught of 36 shots. Anaheim’s defense looked shaky once more, giving up prime opportunities to their opponents with turnovers.
Also on the night, Anaheim would rack up ten minutes of penalty time, another recurring issue for them. Once more the penalty kill unit came up short allowing two goals.
Faceoffs are another recurring issue as they lost almost 70% of their draws Tuesday. The lack of wins led to less time in control of the puck and the defensive zone losses even contributed directly to a goal Tuesday.
The offense also lacked creating opportunities in general. Anaheim mustered just 12 shots in 60 minutes.
After a day off on Wednesday the Ducks get another opportunity as they faceoff with Seattle again tonight. Gametime is at 10:00 P.M EDT and 7:00 P.M PDT on BSSD, BSSC, ROOT-NW+ as well as NHL Powerplay on ESPN+
Once tomorrow’s game ends the Ducks will travel farther north into Canada for games against Edmonton, Vancouver and then Calgary.
