Justin Gaethje vs. Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway set for UFC 300

Publish Date: January 22, 2024

The UFC has finalized & officially announced a super-fight for UFC 300. It will feature Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway on the main card scheduled for April 13. The ‘BMF’ belt held by Gaethje, is on the line in the matchup against Holloway. He had claimed the belt in July of 2023, after a ferocious knockout win over UFC veteran, Dustin Porirer. For Holloway, this will be his twenty-ninth fight with the promotion and his first ever in the lightweight division.

His first fight came in 2012, and since then Max has captured the Featherweight title, and grown to be a fan favorite in the sport. Gaethje on the opposing side, has never had a boring fight in his career. Every time Justin Gaethje steps inside the octagon, you can guarantee it’s fireworks from start to finish. To have two of the greatest fighters on the planet going against one another is truly something to behold.

Does This Fight Make Any Sense?

The announcement of this matchup was quite surprising. Not only due to the magnitude of this fight, but also because it doesn’t make sense why they scheduled it . Max Holloway has been the clear number one contender in the men’s featherweight division. He is 0-3 against current champion, Alexander Volkanovski, which could be a reason for him moving up in weight. Justin Gaethje is coming off an impressive win against someone in the top-five of his division. If the stars were to align correctly, he could find himself to be in position for another title fight. To take this fight against Holloway with the ‘BMF’ belt on the line seems too big of a risk for Gaethje. Even if he wins this fight, sure it’s impressive to add that win to your resume, but it won’t help his current position in the lightweight division.
