This is a major circumstance regarding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The NFL plans to suspend their starting quarterback, Jameis Winston for the first three games of the 2018 season. Sources say that an Uber driver had professed that he sexually harassed her by grabbing her crotch while waiting at a drive-through at a Mexican restaurant. This took place back in March 2016 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Story
The driver stated that Winston held his hand on her inner thigh for a few seconds until she filed a complaint to Uber. The league started to investigate the situation in November 2017. The restaurant didn’t retrieve any footage of the car at the drive-through, and no police charges were filed. Uber confirmed to ESPN that the young quarterback is restricted from riding with them.
Winston denied the accusation of him and claimed that the woman could’ve mistaken him for one of the other passengers that were in the car with him. One of the eyewitnesses that were in the car with Winston was Philadelphia Eagles’ cornerback, Ronald Darby. He stated that he and Winston were in the back seat, along with a third person that sat in the passenger’s seat. Darby also claimed that Winston hadn’t touched or done anything to the driver.
Later on, the NFL investigated that Darby wasn’t in the car for long. Therefore, they still don’t know if Winston did anything. The case isn’t solved yet, but if he is found guilty of sexually harassing the driver, then he would face a three-game suspension. If the NFL confirms it, then Winston would lose $124,000 in his base salary.
If He’s suspended
The investigation is still taking place. This has been going on for seven months. Sources say that the NFL will make their final decision sometime this week. If they confirm that Winston will be suspended for the first three games, then the Buccaneers will have to start back up quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, a 14-year veteran who signed with the Bucs last season. He went 2-1 last year when Winston suffered an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder.
Last season Fitzpatrick threw for 1,103 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also ended the Bucs’ five game losing streak when he came in for Winston. Fitzpatrick’s leadership and life long experience in the league can help the Bucs get through the three games, if “Famous” Jameis gets suspended.
