The UFC officially signed Vinicius Oliveira after a knockout win in his fight on Dana White’s Contender Series. Shortly following his knockout victory and promotion signage, his debut match was announced. The promotion scheduled Oliveira to make his debut against Benardo Sopaj at UFC Vegas 87. Sopaj at the time had a professional record of 11-2-0. With less than fifteen professional fights, he’s competed in a plethora of promotions. The matchup against Oliveira appeared it was going to go all three rounds & end in a decision. However, with 19 seconds left in the match Vinicius landed a knockout on Sopaj so brutal it left fans speechless. Could this highlight reel knockout be an early contender for knockout of the year?
A perfectly timed flying knee that left Sopaj unconscious is absolutely an early contender for knockout of the year. The clip made it into the top 5 on SportsCenter’s Top 10 that same night. Only being two months into the new year, this is without a doubt the leading contender to win. It’s difficult to say that it will indefinitely take home the award. However, it’s definitely one for the history books. Vinicius Oliveira improves to 20-3-0 as a professional mixed martial artist. He’ll attempt to continue to rise and make a name for himself in the UFC’s stacked bantamweight division.
