How to watch American sports live outside the US

Publish Date: December 15, 2020

After traveling abroad, it can be quite frustrating to find out that you can’t catch your favorite teams live in action anymore. This is because you won’t have access to cable TV, and official streaming services are only accessible within the country.

Fortunately, if you want to continue enjoying your favorite sporting action, there are several methods you can use. In this guide, we’ll show you how to watch sports outside the US and without cable TV.

You will need a VPN

While outside the country, the only reliable way you can watch your preferred games is through streaming. However, the streaming services that provide access to premium sports use geo-restrictions and are only available to US users.

This means that to access such a service, you will need to change your virtual location. You can do this using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), which will allow you to connect to a server based in the US. This server will then spoof your IP address and give you an American one, allowing you to bypass the geo-restrictions put in place by streaming services. Any of the best free VPN services should be sufficient for this, but you can also opt for a premium service for a better experience.

How to watch outside the US

The are many streaming services that allow users to watch American sports, and each of them has its strengths and downsides. Below are some of the best to watch sports from anywhere.

Sling TV

Sling TV was designed as a replacement for cable TV, and it’s one of the most affordable ways of watching sports in and outside the US. The streaming service doesn’t offer every channel you may need for complete coverage of the NFL, NBA, or MLB, but it does offer lots of channels at just $30 a month.

There are two packages available: Blue and Orange. Blue is the most comprehensive option for sports fans as it offers Fox Sports, NBC Sports, and the NFL Network. You can also add an extra $15 a month to get Sling Orange. This will come with other top channels such as ESPN 1,2,3, TNT, TBS, and more. You can try Sling TV free for 7 days to see if it covers your streaming needs.

Fubo TV

fuboTV is more expensive than Sling TV, but it’s the complete streaming option for sports fans. The service is sports-oriented, and not only does it provide the standard NFL, NBA, and MLB, but it also lets you watch other sports such as golf, boxing, MMA, college sports, and more.

Its total sports package includes 116 channels, 30 hours of cloud DVR space, and the ability to watch on two screens at once. You can try the service free for a week and cancel at any time.

How about free streaming options?

There are several methods that let sports fans watch their favorite teams for free. These include Reddit NFL Streams, Kodi, and third-party Android apps, among others. These methods provide users with free streams from various broadcasters such as Fox Sports, ESPN, NBC Sports, and TNT.

However, you need to be careful while using such methods as some of the streams you get may be pirated. If you wish to use a completely free streaming option, it’s highly advisable that you use a VPN to encrypt your activities and change your IP address.
