Houston Texans fire head coach David Culley

David Culley fired

The Houston Texans have fired head coach David Culley. After being hired on January 29, 2021, Culley did not even hold the Texans’ head coaching position for less than a calendar year. Houston and Culley had a record of 4-13 at the end of the 2021-2022 season.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.

The 4-13 record was good enough for third in the AFC South. Their division rival Jacksonville had one fewer win, and will choose first in the 2022 NFL Draft for a second year in a row. Culley had an extremely depleted roster with which to work, as many assets had left via trade and free agency.

That is even without mentioning Deshaun Watson missing an entire season among sexual assault allegations and refusing to play for the Texans franchise. There were rumors of him being traded midseason, but they did not come to fruition. He may still be traded ahead of the draft.

Despite Culley overperforming with a talent relatively bereft of talent, he has been fired. Stay tuned to TGH for potential replacements and other NFL news.
