Ducks Blown Out Twice

Publish Date: March 13, 2024

Anaheim fell to the Dallas Stars Friday 6-2 and lost again on Sunday to the New York Islanders 6-1.

The Ducks have managed just 5 goals in their last four games and are 4-5-1 in their last ten games.

In their match up with the Stars the lone scorers were Alex Killorn (11)  and Ryan Strome (11). Strome also picked up an assist as well as Frank Vatrano, Cam Fowler, and Pavel Mintyukov.

Six different Stars scored against the Ducks. Jamie Benn and Joe Pavelski both had a goal and assist.

Duck’s John Gibson faced 36 shots on the night, only stopping 30, three of which came on the power play. Penalties have been an issue for the Ducks all season. The special teams spend a lot of time on ice, giving their opponents tons of extra opportunities to score.

With their win the Stars complete the season sweep of the Ducks 3-0.

Then on Sunday it was Lukas Dostal’s turn to give up six goals. New York only managed 19 shots on goal against the Duck’s, but one third of them managed to find twine.

Anaheim’s lone scorer was Alex Killorn who has now scored a goal in four straight games for the Ducks.

For New York it was six different guys adding goals. Brock Nelson and Bo Horvat had a goal and assist. Former Duck Kyle Palmieri tallied a goal against his original team as well.

Although they only gave up one power play goal the Ducks still racked up 12 minutes of penalty time. The penalty numbers have greatly affected the Ducks offensive attack. Constantly being on the penalty kill has left the Ducks constantly in a state of clear the puck, dump it, and run.

The Ducks currently have the 27th ranked PK unit in the league. Giving them less time on the ice could really help win some games.

The Isles sweep the Ducks in the season series 2-0 after beating the Ducks back in December 4-3.

Greg Cronin who is always an honest and critical coach has gotten more upset about losing. Claiming that it is up to the players to change things around.

Up next for Anaheim is a four game road trip that starts in Chicago. Chicago is at the bottom of the NHL standings with just 39 points.

Chicago took the two team’s first meeting of the year back in December 1-0.

Then after the team travels to Minnesota, Winnipeg, and they end things in St. Louis before coming home once more.

To catch the action in Minnesota tune in at 8:00 P.M. EDT and 5:00 P.M. PDT on BSW, BSN, BSWIX and NHL Power Play on ESPN+.
