A source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the New Orleans Saints and Dez Bryant agreed to a one year earlier deal today. Bryant will sign the contract tomorrow.
He has been a free agent since the Dallas Cowboys released him during preseason. Bryant is a three time Pro Bowler, being invited in 2014, 2014, and 2016. From the 2012 to 2014 seasons, Bryant had 12 touchdowns and a minimum of 1200 yards. But in 2017, Bryant’s numbers slipped due to injuries. He had 69 receptions for 838 yards and six touchdowns.
Despite being 7-1, the Saints are thin at receiver. Star receiver Michael Thomas is having another stellar year as he has 70 receptions for 880 yards and five touchdowns. But behind him is when things get murky. Ted Ginn Jr. has been on injured reserve since last month. The team signed Cameron Meredith to help out but he has been nonexistent. Running back Alvin Kamara has been the secondary receiver behind Thomas. He has 51 receptions which is the second most on the team, as well as 427 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
The Saints are hoping he can return to form, as he is only 30 years old. Bryant held out as he wanted to play for a winner as well as a chance to play against the Cowboys twice a year. None of the NFC East teams were interested but the Saints might be his best shot at a title.
