Dana White’s Contender Series Week 2 Recap

Publish Date: August 3, 2022

After a lackluster week one a frustrated Dana White made it clear that the fighters have to fight like their lives depended on it. And the week two fighters definitely heard that message crystal clear as White said it was one of the all time best nights of the series. In Dana White’s Contender Series Week 2 five UFC contracts were awarded.

Great Performances

All of these fights had stellar performances. After week one, only one contract was awarded and White was very frustrated because it seemed as though the fighters didn’t understand the opportunity that they had. All of these fighters fought like their careers were at stake. And it showed as Dana White’s Contender Series was trending for the first time as it was second on twitters trending feed.

The top performers of the night had to be Vincius Salvador and Francis Marshall as they both dominated their opponents in highly entertaining fights. Salvador is a lightweight with a 100% finish rate with 13 KO’s. He dropped Connor Matthews multiple times in this fight while showing his durability. Marshall’s fight was an all out war that he came out on top of. Also, Dana White himself said that fight could have been on any pay-per-view card.

Waldo Cortes Acosta won his fight in spectacular fashion. He was a head hunting heavyweight and it showed. Acosta pressured his opponent heavily until he was able to unleash his powerful right hand. He is the most raw prospect of the group. White said that he has a lot to work on but he performed. His finish and the heavyweight division lacking prospects is the reason he earned a UFC contract

Incredible Comebacks

There were two fighters that seemed to be destined to be finished but flipped the script. Billy Goff was almost knocked out in the first 3o seconds of his fight. He was punished by a huge head kick and was wobbled multiple times. He ultimately weathered the storm and flurried his opponent with punches winning by TKO.

Chris Duncan had previous experience on the show as he lost his first appearance a couple of years ago. Although, he found himself in a similar situation as Goff. Duncan was dropped multiple times with uppercuts and the official was close to stopping it. The last time he was dropped he stood up and blasted his opponent with a right hand knocking him out. This moment ended the night and made everyone watching go berserk.

Review

This week is one of the all time great events in this shows history. Not only did all five winners be awarded a UFC contract, but UFC Hall of Fame Michael Bisping thought that two of the losers should be awarded contracts for their performances. This event was more entertaining than many UFC Fight Nights that are put on. Dana White’s message to the fighters last week seemed to have worked and has lit a fire in every single one of them. This episode might not be topped in the future, but many more people will be watching because of it.
