Rookie Connor Bedard led the Chicago Blackhawks to a 7-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks.
Bedard had a goal and four assists. Nick Foligno added four assists as well for Chicago. Phillip Kurashev added a goal. Phillipp Kurashev also had a four point night for the Blackhawks with two goals and two assists.
Brett Leason was Anaheim’s lone goal scorer for the Ducks as he tallied goal number nine and ten on the season. Cam Fowler and Urho Vaakanainen added an assist each.
What had originally started off through most of two periods as a close game, the Blackhawks ended up burying the Ducks with a flurry of offense in the third.
At the 10:39 mark in the first it was Anaheim getting on the board first with a short handed Brett Leason wrist shot after Cam Fowler was able to create a turnover and make a pass from his own zone to Leason at the Chicago blue line.
Ryan Donato would however complete that same power play with a goal after a Ducks turnover and a flurry of bodies down low in front of John Gibson.
After one period the game was tied 2-1.
Just under two minutes into the first period Brett Leason would strike again, beating Blackhawks goalie Petr Mrazek with a wrister. Urho Vaakanainen assisted with a blue line to blue line missile that landed right on Leason’s stick.
Phillip Kurashev would tie things up at 3:25 in the second. Then a Seth Jones power play goal would give the Blackhawks their first lead of the game.
With just 29 seconds left in the second the number one overall pick Connor Bedard would beat John Gibson with a slapshot. Heading to the locker room after two periods Chicago led 4-2.
The third period saw a lot of penalty minutes for both teams and a lot of goals for Chicago. MacKenzie Entwistle would add a goal at 2:43 extending the Blackhawk lead to 5-2.
Then just 27 seconds later at the 3:10 mark Philip Kurashev’s power play goal would make things 6-2.
With nine minutes left to play temperatures would rise and gloves would come off. Petr Mrazek and John Gibson would even leave their crease resulting in a game misconduct for each player. The Ducks’ Radko Gudas and Chicago’s Reese Johnson would also get game misconducts for fighting. Anaheim registered 43 penalty minutes and Chicago had 45.
Finally to end the night Tyler Johnson’s power play goal would be the last goal of the night securing a big 7-2 win for the Blackhawks.
Chicago leads the season series 2-0 and the teams will play a final time on the 21st.
