The Buccaneers are placing the franchise tag on Chris Godwin. This is the second year in a row that Godwin will play under the franchise tag. This decision will allow the Bucs to retain Godwin’s services for another year without negotiating a new deal.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.

While he played under the franchise tag last season, Godwin earned $15.9 million. This year, he will be paid $19.2 million for playing under the second year tag, which is automatically higher than the regular wide receiver cap number. This is a 20 percent increase in salary.
The Super Bowl champion receiver played in 14 of 17 games in 2021 before tearing his ACL. Before his injury he had 98 receptions for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns. This was Godwin’s second season with over 1,000 receiving yards (2019).
