Both the Chiefs and the Chargers are coming off big wins in week 1. This week 2 Chiefs vs. Chargers matchup may have big playoff implications already, as these two teams are gunning for the top spot in the AFC.
AFC West Heavy Hitters
In 2022 there is no doubt that the AFC West is the best division in the NFL. The Chiefs and the Chargers may be the cream of the crop based on their week one performances.
The Chiefs had no problem out dueling the Arizona Cardinals in their week 1 matchup. Patrick Mahomes ended up throwing for 360 yards and 5 touchdowns, as he did not miss Tyreek Hill at all.
Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs’ defense held the usual high-powered offense of the Cardinals to just 7 points up until the fourth quarter. Limiting Kyler Murray and the Cardinals’ run game.
The Chargers on the other hand played through a tough-fought game against a division rival the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Chargers’ defense was as impressive as the offense in this game. The new duo of Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa paid off as Derrick Carr was sacked 5 times and threw three interceptions.
Justin Herbert picked up where he left off as he threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns. The biggest question for this offense so far is: Where is the running game? Austin Ekeler was the leading rusher with 36 yards total.
The Chiefs new receivers proved to be valuable additions as JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdez-Scantling combined for 10 catches and over 100 yards.
Rookie receiver Skyy Moore also saw some time hauling in a big catch for 30 yards. Furthermore, rookie running back Isiah Pacheco led the team in rushing and scored his first career touchdown. Although, most of those yards came in garbage time, but nonetheless it was still an impressive debut for Pacheco.
The Chargers’ new addition Khalil Mack was an absolute game changer in week 1. The Raiders offensive line had no chance of stopping both him and Bosa. This duo will be a force to be reckoned with all season long. And will be a good challenge against this talented Chiefs offensive line.
This Thursday Night Football matchup might be the best Thursday game we see all year. This division is set to compete for the top couple of spots in the AFC all year and this Chiefs vs. Chargers matchup is no different.
