Oscar Mercado is heading from the Cardinals to the Indians in return for minor league outfielders Conner Capel and Jhon Torres.
Mercado is a great prospect in his own right, but the Cardinals have been shedding outfielders as of late.
In 100 games in Triple-A, Mercado has a .285 batting average, eight home runs and 42 RBIs. He has also added 31 stolen bases.
The Indians get some outfield depth, as well as a solid young player in Mercado.
St. Louis didn’t really buy or sell at the deadline like expected but rather did neither with their trades.
Capel is hitting .261 in Single-A as a left-handed hitting outfielder. He is just 21-years-old.
Torres is an 18-year-old outfielder who has played in the Rookie League this season. He’s batting .273 with four home runs and 16 RBIs in 27 appearances.
