Why You Can’t Blame KD For Choosing The Warriors

I was never a big Kevin Durant guy. I rooted for him, but never cared enough to follow his games. Now that he’s on potentially one of the best teams ever, I’m sure I’ll be watching him more often. But, I think something should be noted before talking about the move.

What Durant did on Monday afternoon was selfish. It was America’s day and he tried to make it about himself. And I think he was somewhat successful. On a day where we celebrate the independence of our nation, he celebrated himself. Why not announce it Sunday night? Why not wait until Tuesday? By no means am I someone who had to do everything “The American Way”; I just thought it was a little selfish. Anyway…

The Kevin Durant move to Golden State was…UNREAL! I really thought he was going to stay in OKC for one more year and then maybe make a move if he didn’t win a ring. It is crazy to think that arguably four of the league’s top 10 players are on one team. But, here is why you can’t give him s— for leaving.

Durant has stuck with this franchise for 9 years and gave his absolute all/ He produced an MVP, 4X Scoring Champ, and 7X NBA All-Star. But, the most important statistic, he has a big fat 0 in the ring column. So for any OKC fan to say it was f—– up that he left obviously does not understand the main goal for an NBA player. That is to win a championship. That wasn’t happening in Oklahoma City.

If you did something for nine years straight and got the same results, why would you do it the 10th year?
Why think, “oh maybe this time around it will be different”? Insanity is doing something over and over again, and expecting a different result. By definition, KD would be insane if he resigned with the Thunder. How can you knock a guy for avoiding insanity?

The Thunder were not winning a title with the team they had. You know it, I know it, and any basketball fan with some sort of IQ knows it. What we saw last season was the peak Thunder team and KD knew they weren’t getting back to that spot.

I have no problem with him going to the team that beat him in the Western Conference Finals. Who cares? If you want to be in the best position to win a championship, you go to the team that will put you in that position. And that’s what the warriors will do for him. THAT SIMPLE. So when Stephen A. Smith says, “Weak move” it is because he’s had beef with Durant before and has some sort of grudge against him. Anyone who watch’s First Take would know.

I have read and heard different things about comparing it to what LeBron did when he moved to Miami. Here’s the thing: if you gave KD crap about the switch then you better have done the same with LeBron. Want to know why?

Both couldn’t win a ring with their original team. Both moved to a better team to put themselves in the best position to win. Both had the advantage of playing with future HOFers (KD: Curry and Klay, LBJ: Bosh, Wade, & Allen). I’m also not too sure Klay will be in the HOF, but he could be. The only difference, LeBron made it feel like it was the next hit-series drama while ditching his hometown in the end. Please don’t say what Durant did was worse than LeBron. You’re only lying to yourself.

Lastly, we aren’t going to see “Not 1, Not 2, Not 3, Not 4…” from KD and the Warriors, but we will see some. Whether you are a GS fan or not, you should be excited. Can the season start now?
