Seven-time Pro Bowler and former first round selection Alex Mack has announced his retirement from the NFL. Mack still had two years left on his contract with the San Francisco 49ers before announcing his retirement.
PFF’s Ari Meirov announced the news via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.
Mack was the 21st pick of the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He played with the Browns for seven seasons. In 2016, he signed a five-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons, finishing his contract before signing a three-year deal with San Francisco. As stated earlier, he will have only played out one of those years.
Although he never made a First Team All-Pro, Mack was selected to the Second Team All-Pro three times, along with his seven Pro Bowl selections. He was also named to the 2010s All Decade team at the center position.
