Andrei Vasilevskiy Signs 8-year, $76 Million Contract With the Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning re-signed goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to an 8-year, $76 million contract extension ($9.5 million AAV). Vasilevskiy $9.5 million AAV is now the third-highest contract among goalie in NHL. He is behind Carey Price ($10.5M) and Sergei Bobrovsky ($10M). 

Vasilevskiy’s Career With Lightning

Vasilevskiy, 25, was drafted 19th overall in the 2012 draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Russian native spent his entire career in Tampa Bay, posting a 124-59-15 record with 2.55 goals-against average, .919 save percentage and 18 shutouts. He is the franchise leader in saves (5819) and shutouts. In the playoffs, he played 33 games with a 15-15 record, 2.83 GAA and a.912 save percentage.

2018-2019 Season

Last season he took home the Vezina Trophy (top goaltender) and led the NHL in wins (39). Also, he posted his career-high in save percentage (.925) and goals-against average (2.40) in 53 starts. 

Vasilevskiy joined Team Russia for the 2019 IIHF World Championships after being swept by the Blue Jackets. In the tournament, Vasilevskiy led all goaltenders for save percentage (.946), second for goals-against average (1.60) and tied first with two shutouts. Russia ended up winning the Bronze Medal in the tournament. 

“Since joining the organization Andrei has shown unmatched work ethic and professionalism both on and off the ice,” Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois said in a statement. “We look forward to him continuing his career in Tampa Bay for the foreseeable future.”
