Daniel Berger Leads Though Two Rounds at St. Jude Classic

The Game Haus StaffBy The Game Haus StaffJune 11, 2016Updated:June 12, 20162 Mins Read

With day two in the books at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennesse, Daniel Berger is the outright leader at nine-under par after posting a three-under 67 on day one and a six-under 64 yesterday.

Berger, a former Florida State Seminole, currently holds a three-stroke lead over Tom Hoge, thanks to six birdies and no bogies on the day for Berger.

Berger seems to be a hollow shell of who he was last year, but in a good way. Last year, Berger missed 14 cuts of the 31 events he played in and as of right now he’s only missed three of 17. Berger’s play this year could potentially be attributed to making it to his sophomore season after getting his footing last year. Berger has yet to log a finish inside the top-five this season but if he keeps going at this rate, he shouldn’t have an issue taking home a trophy come this Sunday.

Three golfers by the names of Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, and Dustin Johnson sit tied for third at five-under a piece. All three of the golfers above have at least one win under their belts and definitely have the ability to grab a hold of the lead, it just all depends on how they play compared to Berger.

Koepka, also a former Seminole, finished tied for third at the FedEx St. Jude Classic last year and had a slim chance to bring it home but an even-par final round for Koepka and a four-under 66 for the winner, Fabian Gomez, stifled Koepka’s chances.

Mickelson also finished tied for third last year after posting a five-under 65 in his final round, but his first three rounds didn’t give him enough to take down Gomez.

Johnson withdrew from last year’s St. Jude Classic due to illness but he won the event in 2012, so he definitely has the ability and knowledge of the course to take home the trophy, but with golf, nothing is ever certain.

Play begins tomorrow at 7:30 AM CDT.
