The NFL Draft is now over, so now fans can look ahead to their fantasy football drafts. The following rankings will help fantasy football players have a good idea of who to target in their draft and when they should target them. These rankings are best used for standard scoring leagues and will be updated sporadically before the season starts. Here are the 2019 fantasy football quarterback rankings.
Quarterback Rankings: 1-10
1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
Mahomes was the best quarterback in fantasy football by far last season. While it would be crazy to expect him to throw for 50 touchdowns again this season, he still finished with 11 more than any other quarterback. It is smart to monitor Tyreek Hill’s situation, but it will still take a lot to move Mahomes down this list much further than the top spot.
2. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
Last season, Rodgers finished sixth in fantasy points. He does have a new head coach coming in and has another year to work with some of his young receivers. Davante Adams is already a star, but if he can get Geronimo Allison, Marquez Valdez-Scantling or Equanimeous St. Brown to step up, he will have a better season.
3. Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans
Houston has their franchise quarterback in Watson, who finished fourth in fantasy scoring last season. Watson has arguably the best wide receiver in the game in DeAndre Hopkins. If Will Fuller stays healthy he also will have a big play threat. Injury could be a concern though, as the offensive line will not be one of the most talented in the league.
4. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons
While not many people had him rated that high last season, Matt Ryan finished as the second-best fantasy quarterback. He has a decent running game to keep the offense balanced and when he does throw, has plenty of guard targets in Julio Jones, Mo Sanu, Calvin Ridley and Austin Hooper.
5. Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers
It’ll be important to watch Newton’s preseason games, as he had right shoulder surgery this offseason. He finished 13th for quarterbacks last season, but played injured through the last half of the season and missed two games. The first half of the season, he was on fire. Devin Funchess is no longer a Panther, but Curtis Samuel and D.J. Moore should both develop more this offseason. His rushing ability also needs to be taken into consideration, as he’ll likely still get a lot of rushing touchdowns if healthy.
6. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
Roethlisberger ranked third for fantasy quarterbacks last season, but drops a few spots due to his age and the loss of Antonio Brown. The offense should still be great, as Roethlisberger led the NFL in passing yards last season. James Washington will need to progress to provide a good target across from JuJu Smith-Schuster to help make the offense one of the best in the league for next season.
7. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
Brees has become more of an efficient player and less of a volume passer in recent years, which is why he finished eighth among quarterbacks last season. The Saints added Jared Cook though, which will give Brees his best tight end since Jimmy Graham. The offense may shift a little to be more focused on passing, as Mark Ingram is now a Raven.
8. Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams
Last season, Goff finished seventh among fantasy quarterbacks. He’ll have Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp (assuming he returns from injury) to help him back in the top 10. Goff will also have Todd Gurley out of the backfield to utilize once again.
9. Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns
Mayfield only played in 14 games last season and still ranked 16th out of the quarterbacks. The Browns have added plenty of weapons for him to up his game with. He’ll have Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, David Njoku, Kareem Hunt and more. With a full 16 game schedule for him, Mayfield should be a QB1 this season.
10. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks
With Doug Baldwin retiring, Russell Wilson has a lack of weapons and a bad pass blocking offensive line in front of him. He’s still extremely talented, so he’ll be right around the 8-13 range for ranked quarterbacks in fantasy (he ranked 9th last year with Baldwin), but he’ll have to create some plays for himself.
Quarterback Rankings 11-20
11. Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers have a very talented roster and Rivers is leading the way. He was the 11th ranked fantasy quarterback last season and isn’t aging as poorly as some people believe. With another year of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Melvin Gordon, Rivers should finish in about the same range.
12. Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Winston finished as the 22nd ranked fantasy quarterback last season, despite only playing in 11 games. With a full season, Bruce Arians as head coach and Mike Evans at wide receiver, expect him to finish much better this season.
13. Tom Brady, New England Patriots
Anyone who owned Brady last season, will know not to have him as the top option on a fantasy team unless it is a really big league. He finished 14th last season and now will have to play without Rob Gronkowski at tight end.
14. Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles
Although he only played in 11 games last season, Wentz ranked 23rd for fantasy quarterbacks. If he can stay healthy he should be able to move up significantly this season. They’ll be relying on him to make a lot of plays, as their running game isn’t great.
15. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
Prescott was the 10th best quarterback last season. The offense really opened up once they traded for Amari Cooper. He gets a bad rap for throwing a lot of short passes, but can make big plays for the Cowboys when defenses fall asleep on play action because of how big of a threat they have in the running game thanks to Ezekiel Elliot. He also racks up his own rushing statistics making him a viable option to stream on certain weeks.
16. Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings struggled last season, but Cousins scored the 12th most fantasy points for a quarterback. With receivers like Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen, he should have another decent fantasy season, but shouldn’t be a primary option for teams unless the league has more than 12 teams.
17. Jimmy Garappolo, San Francisco 49ers
Garappolo got injured last season and didn’t get a chance to prove himself as a fantasy quarterback. He doesn’t have the best wide receivers, but will have one of the best tight ends in the NFL in George Kittle.
18. Mitch Trubisky, Chicago Bears
While Trubisky did take a step forward last season and finished 15th for quarterbacks, with weapons on the outside that aren’t the greatest, he may take a small step backward in terms of fantasy football. Especially with Winston, Garoppolo, Wentz and Mayfield getting full seasons to work with.
19. Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions
This is not the Matthew Stafford of old anymore. Last season he finished as the 20th best fantasy quarterback. Add in the fact that he doesn’t have Golden Tate anymore and he should finish at about the same range.
20. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
Jackson can throw the ball better than most people think, but he has to prove it now. Teams will be loading up the box to stop the run. His best weapon on offense will be rookie wide receiver Marquise Brown, so between using him and his legs, there will be some big plays, but it will likely be an inconsistent offense.
Quarterback Rankings: 21-30
21. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
Kliff Kingsbury will have an offense that suits Murray, which makes him worth a late-round pick to stash. It is hard to project the offense being great though for a first-year head coach, a rookie quarterback and an offense that was bad last season.
22. Nick Foles, Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars will want to keep the ball on the ground and grind out the clock because they have a great defense. Foles will make all the necessary throws, but may not put up huge numbers.
23. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Allen picked up a lot of rushing yards last season and finished as the 21st quarterback in the league, even though he was injured for part of the season. Unfortunately, he won’t have elite receivers to throw to this season and his tight end will be Tyler Kroft.
24. Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders
Will Antonio Brown help Derek Carr’s fantasy value? Maybe a little, but it wasn’t working with Amari Cooper. Carr finished as the 18th quarterback for fantasy last season, but it didn’t seem like him and Jon Gruden on were on the same page a lot. Keep an eye on Carr, but don’t draft him in most leagues.
25. Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals
Dalton had a below average offensive line last season and finished as the 25th quarterback. The line should be improved and Zac Taylor could help Dalton this season, but if it doesn’t go well the Bengals will be looking for a new quarterback next season.
26. Sam Darnold, New York Jets
The Jets are a mess in the front office and hopefully for Darnold’s sake, it doesn’t carry over to the field. He won’t have the best weapons on the outside, but will have Le’Veon Bell to utilize out of the backfield.
27. Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans
Mariota hasn’t progressed like fans would’ve hoped over the last few seasons. He finished 24th last season, but could be looking over his shoulder at Ryan Tannehill who was signed this offseason.
28. Jacoby Brissett, Indianapolis Colts
With the surprising news that Andrew Luck is retiring, Brissett now has some fantasy football relevance for very deep leagues or for streaming purposes. He has weapons in T.Y. Hilton and Eric Ebron to go along with some experience starting.
29. Joe Flacco, Denver Broncos
Even though he was benched for Lamar Jackson, Flacco will now start for the Broncos. He’ll have to hold off Drew Lock, who was just drafted by the team. Flacco will have Emmanuel Sanders and Courtland Sutton to throw to.
30. Dwayne Haskins, Washington Redskins
Haskins should start for Washington, but they have decided to go with Keenum to start the year. Haskins should be able to work into the starting lineup before the season is over.
