Midfielder Luciano “Lucho” Acosta has been named the 2023 Landon Donovan MLS MVP. He is the first player in the history of FC Cincinnati to be given the award, just four years into their Major League Soccer membership.
FC Cincinnati’s official Twitter account tweeted out a congratulations on Monday.
FC Cincinnati earned the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, grabbing 69 points in the regular season. They are currently awaiting their single-match Eastern Conference Finals playoff matchup against their biggest rivals, the Columbus Crew. Acosta was a big part of their seeding.
He contributed to 31 goals this year and was two-time MLS Player of the Month. Acosta had 10 games with two-plus goals or assists and seven games with one goal or assist, which were both good enough for most in the entire league.
