The Quarterfinals of the Gold Cup will start Saturday, June 29 at 1:00 pm EST.
Haiti will match up against Canada. Haiti did a good job in the group stages as they leave with nine points and a goal differential of four. Canada also is up to par with six points from the group stage and a goal differential of nine. Even though Haiti is placed first in their group, the big goal differential between the two teams plays towards Canada winning this match.
Mexico and Costa Rica will match up at 3:30 pm EST on Saturday. Mexico finished the group with nine points and a goal differential of 10. Costa Rica is leaving group play with six points and a four-goal difference. Mexico is both strong in scoring which will probably lead to Mexico moving through.
The USA will face off with Panama on Wednesday, June 26 to finish their group stage. This will determine
whom they will play in the quarterfinals. Both teams sit with six points, but USA is in first with a 10 point goal differential. Panama is sitting with four in goal difference. Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago will face off on Wednesday as well. Since both teams sit with zero points, it’s impossible for them to move onto the quarterfinals.
The winner of the USA vs Panama game will play Curacao on Sunday, June 30 at 2:00 pm EST. Curacao has four points and a goal differential of zero. If the USA keeps their good games up to win against Panama they will play Curacao. Because the US has had high scoring in recent games, it would help them greatly in their games against Panama and Curacao.
The loser of this game will play Jamaica on Sunday at 11:30 am EST. Jamaica finished the group stage with five points and a goal differential of one. Panama most likely will be playing with Jamaica. Panama’s team has better statistics from group stages that could help in the game against Jamaica.
No matter how the group stages finish, there is a possibility of USA and Panama facing off again in the semifinals if they manage to win both of their quarterfinal games.
