The group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup has concluded, and the matchups for the Round of 32 have been revealed and are now underway.
One of the hosts of the tournament and winners of Group D, the USA will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 in Santa Clara on July 1.
The USA looked strong and sound in their opening two matches, beating Paraguay 4-1 and Australia 2-0. They then rested some starters against Turkey after they had already secured the group and lost their final game 3-2.
Despite not finishing 3-0 in group play, the USA have shown immense growth and confidence since their previous World Cup appearance in 2022 and are benefiting from home-field advantage.
The U.S. will get winger Christian Pulisic back fully healthy after he dealt with a calf injury and last came on as a substitute in their match against Turkey. Striker Folarin Balogun also leads the team with two goals and will be hoping to continue his strong form.
Bosnia and Herzegovina qualified for the knockout stage as the third-placed team in Group B. After starting their World Cup campaign with a draw against Canada and a loss to Switzerland, Bosnia bounced back with a 3-1 win over Qatar to move through.
They are clear underdogs against the U.S. on home soil, but they have shown positive signs throughout the tournament and will take confidence from their most recent victory.
The winner of this match will face the winner of Belgium vs. Senegal in the Round of 16 on July 6 in Seattle.
