Throughout the Antiquity Age in Civ 7, players will need to explore their area using a classic early-game unit called Scouts. In Civ 7, Scouts will no longer be a unit in the trenches of combat. Instead, Scouts will have an even bigger focus on exploration and helping you to see what is happening in the tiles around your first Settlement. They also ignore tiles that place movement restrictions on military units. In short, Scouts can move quickly and see even more tiles than ever before.

Scouts can defend themselves, similar to how Settlers work in Civ 7, but they can not launch attacks on other units. But, to make up for this, Scouts now have an ability that allows them to sacrifice part of their movement for the turn to survey an area, giving even more sightlines and highlighting any points of interest in nearby hidden tiles. You can see this in action in the Antiquity Age developer livestream from a few months ago.
From the playtests we have seen so far, having at least one or two Scouts in the early game seems crucial, so get ready to explore your area like never before!
