During the Four Nations break, the San Jose Sharks updated injuries, made recalls, and players spent time recovering or traveling.
The San Jose Sharks will remain without defenseman Jan Rutta, who is on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. Per Max Miller of NHL.com, Rutta is healing slower than expected and is not likely to return soon.
Meanwhile, forward Nikolai Kovalenko is still on IR with an upper-body injury but could return during the team’s road trip.
Another possible return is Nico Sturm, also on IR with a lower-body injury. Sturm is expected to play when the Sharks face the Calgary Flames on Sunday, Feb. 23.
On Feb. 18, the Sharks recalled right wing Collin Graf and defenseman Jack Thompson from the San Jose Barracuda (AHL). Notably, they did not recall forward Andrew Poturalski, who had been called up alongside Graf and Thompson during the last.
Graf has five points in 20 NHL games, including one goal in his last five appearances. The 22-year-old right wing averages 15:32 TOI.
Thompson has five points in 21 games with two goals and three assists. The rookie d-man averages 16:09 TOI but holds a minus-eight rating.

Nico Sturm vacationed in Puerto Vallarta.
Several current and former Sharks visited Maui, Hawaii. Players in the Aloha State included Tyler Toffoli, Luke Kunin, Timothy Liljegren, Jake Walman, Cody Ceci and Mackenzie Blackwood.

Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini attended the Beanpot Tournament in Boston. Celebrini’s Boston University defeated Smith’s Boston College 4-1. Smith must now wear a BU jersey after losing the friendly wager.
Team Teal resume play on Feb. 23 against Calgary. Opening a seven-game road trip, the stretch also includes stops in Winnipeg, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Buffalo and Denver.
