How to Get Better at Rainbow Six Siege

Publish Date: September 12, 2023

With a game like Rainbow Six Siege, it can feel frustrating to get the hang of everything. Unlike Call of Duty, you can’t rush in and expect to get kills and respawn. Every life counts and each time you die, you’re only hurting your team. There’s some strategy involved here, so here’s how to get better at Rainbow Six Siege.

Participate In The Droning Phase

The droning phase, or the “phoning phase” known by many is more important than it seems. Once it begins on offense you want to find the bomb as soon as possible. After finding it try to find a discreet hiding spot for your drone. The more out of sight the better. If an enemy shoots it don’t worry as you have your teammates to rely on to find a better spot/angle.

Don’t Always Red Ping Enemies

Red pinging enemies is where you scan them on a drone and a red marker comes on screen. It’s important to do this to figure out what operators you’re up against but should only be done once. Whenever an enemy gets scanned they are notified and will instantly look for a drone within the area. Instead, mark your enemy using a yellow ping. Your teammates can see it and it doesn’t notify the enemy team. This is perfect for gathering intel while also remaining discrete.

Plan Around The Enemy

There will be times when another Operator is the better pick in a fight. For example, if I’m on defense and I see the enemy has reinforced walls everywhere, I would want to pick someone like Thermite or Ace. Of course, while an ability is everything in Siege it certainly helps when it can be useful in fights.

Coordinate With Your Team

Communication is key in Rainbow Six Siege. Sharing any intel you gathered, and making callouts, among other things are necessary to pull off a victory. Even if you go into game chat and you’re the only one talking, somebody in that lobby is listening. Plan what operators you want to be as some pair well with others.

Find The Right Operator For You

There are a wide variety of Operators in Siege to choose from on defense and offense. Don’t just look at their skills and abilities, but their weapons as well. It’s cool to have an ability that you enjoy, but they’re not the primary way you’re going to get kills. Once you learn a few and are comfortable with them, you’ll feel prepared for any fight you get into.

Gear Up At The Firing Range

This tip falls in line with finding the right Operator. Getting used to the different weapons in the game will aid you tremendously. Not only that but finding the right attachments to bring along with finding the perfect sensitivity will make you feel unstoppable.

Play With Friends

Learning how to play any game is better with friends. Losing a match or dying is never a fun experience, but playing with friends softens the blow. Adding on to this, getting used to making callouts with friends will make it less nerve-wracking to do with strangers.

Don’t Be Afraid To Die

One of the most common mistakes players make is they always play either away from the team or run away from fights. The only way you can get better is by getting involved in the action in any way that you can. If you die it’s not the end of the world. Just keep at it and learn from the mistakes that you made. Even the best players have their off days.

Learn The Maps

Whether you’re playing on offense or defense, learning the maps is a must. It’s not something that’s going to happen overnight as there are several maps you can play on. It’s all random so you don’t really have a choice in getting your favorite. Learning the maps will not only give you a major combat advantage, but it will allow you to get intel such as drone placements too.

Just Have Fun!

If you really want to get better at Rainbow Six Siege just have fun. At the end of the day if you’re not enjoying yourself then what’s the point in playing? The more you play the better you’ll be in no time. Enjoy the journey and how far you’ll come from being a noob to someone that’s at least competent in their gameplay.
