Who is Mabel in Pokemon Legends Z-A?

After much speculation, the newest Pokemon Professor has been revealed. Mabel, a former villain, has been revealed to be the Pokemon Professor in Legends Z-A. While some may know who she is, many are wondering, who is the world is Mabel and why is she in Pokemon Legends Z-A?

We have the official description of Mabel on the main Pokemon Legends Z-A website.

“Mable is the acting director of the Pokémon Research Lab. Since the urban redevelopment plan began, the number of Pokémon in Lumiose City has surged. Mable is researching the habits of these Pokémon and is looking into the reason for their growing numbers.”

What is not talked about here are two major aspects. The first is that she was once a member of Team Flare, the team of villains from Pokemon X & Y. But not only was she a part of the evil team, she was a high-up member, a scientist even. But beyond being a character the players take down, not much else is revealed in the games.

“Acting Director” Mabel

The second and bigger part that is just causally mentioned is that she is the “Acting Director”. Professor Sycamore was in that same lab in X & Y and many fans are wondering, where did he go? Having Mabel step in is a major mystery and one that will need to be addressed in Legends Z-A.

What is even more facinating is that it is as if she is there on a trial basis. Does this mean that Syzamore is going to return and Mabel was just his assistant after nearly destroying the world? Or is it that someone, maybe even Jett from Quasartico Inc. has put her in that position. While there are a lot of new and interesting characters in Legends Z-A, Mabel may end up being one of the most important ones as a major cog in the wheel of the story.

Is Mable Still Team Flare?

The last part of this that needs to be discussed is if she is still part of Team Flare.

You are able to see their logo on her gaming chair and her laptop. Having those be so prominently displayed after everything they did is bold to say the least. She is clearly making no effort to hide this and there is no way that will not be in the story in some way or another.

If Team Flare exists and they are under her direction, the logo is blue now afterall, then maybe they are trying to change the world in a different way. No more genocidal-armageddon motives and hopefully something a bit more peaceful.
