What is the Pokemon Champions Release Date?

Publish Date: January 2, 2026

One of the bigger surprises from 2025 was the reveal of Pokemon Champions. This new game will be taking over as the main Competitive Pokemon Battling game moving forward. With the next season coming up soon, many have been wondering, what is the Pokemon Champions Release Date?

Pokemon Champions Release Date

The only confirmation that we have for the Pokemon Champions Release Date as of now is that it will be in 2026. That being said, there is a general timeline that we can assume based on a few things.

Pokemon Worlds 2026

It is confirmed on the official Pokemon Champions website that “Starting in 2026, Pokémon Champions will be used as the VGC software for the Pokémon World Championships and for Championship Series events leading up to Worlds.

This means that if we look at the 2026 competitive schedule that we can get a decent idea of the release date. There are a few different potential dates.

Theory 1 (January 2026)

Toronto Pokemon Region Championships 2026

The first theory that has been thrown around is that Pokemon Champions will get released in early 2026, as early as the first week of January. Many believe this could be the case due to the fact that the first Regional Championship for 2026 starts in Toronto on January 16, 2026. While this would not give them a ton of time to change the format, it would be better than waiting too long to allow players to prepare for bigger events later in the year.

Theory 2 (Pokemon Day)

Pokemon 30 Anniversary

Pokemon 30 Anniversary

For those who may not know, Pokemon Day is on February 27, when the original games released world wide. This year just so happens to be the 30th Anniversary of Pokemon which means that expectations for what is revealed and announced are extremely high.

There are players who have been wondering if this will be the time that they shadow drop Pokemon Champions. This could help The Pokemon Company just in case they announce something like Generation 10 getting pushed back to 2027.

Aside from the disapointment that type of announcement would bring, it still feels likely that Pokemon Day would be the perfect release date. Not only for the hype but also because if would alight perfectly with all of the many VGC Championships happening in March.

Theory 3 (Mid June)

Of all of the theories, this one feels the least likely.

Mainly due to the fact that all of the events leading up to Worlds 2026 would have been played on different games and completely different formats. With Worlds in San Francisco at the end of August, this would still give those who qualified nearly two months to prepare.

But again, this is more of an absolute latest time the game could realistically release. Fans should expect Pokemon Champions to come out sometime in the first or second quarter of 2026.
