During the latest Nintendo Direct, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX was announced to be coming to the Nintendo Switch on March 6, 2020. It can be pre-purchased later today. This was the first of two major announcements for the Pokemon-themed Nintendo Direct.
The game is clearly getting a graphical overhaul, as the original games were on the Nintendo DS back in 2006. What is also apparent from the initial images that were shown is that by and large, this is a complete re-release for the game. It seems like the story will stay intact. Nothing was mentioned about additional content.
This beautiful remake should delight fans of the spinoff series that have been wondering if there would ever be another Mystery Dungeon game? While maybe not all they had hoped for this game will be telling in a number of ways. For starters, it will be reaching a whole new generation of people who never played the originals. Also, it will be a fresh adaption to an already beloved game by those who have played it before. If the game does well, it would be surprising if Pokemon did not plan another with all of the new Pokemon that have been released since this game came out.
The last note is that this is seemingly a combination of Red and Blue Rescue Team. What this means is not entirely clear as with most Pokemon games there are only subtle differences between the two versions. So if they are combining the two it will be interesting to see how it holds up.
During this Nintendo Direct, they also had a few more announcements specifically about Pokemon Sword and Shield. You can find them here. Also, they announced the date for Pokemon Home.
