Somebody at Pokemon made a very big mistake. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen are now confirmed for Nintendo Switch, and it happened in a way that feels like somebody hit the wrong button a full week early.
It looks like Fire Red and Leaf Green went up on the Nintendo Switch eShop ahead of schedule. Maybe the wrong Friday got selected. Whatever happened, the Pokemon Company made it official, and this is happening just one week before Pokemon Day.
There were a few other updates revealed around the same time, and all of it starts to paint a clearer picture of what to expect as Pokemon Day gets very, very close.
Fire Red and Leaf Green appeared on the Nintendo Switch eShop early, and once it was out there, it seems like Nintendo and Pokemon just decided to go ahead and reveal it instead of trying to pull it back.
This does not come as a huge surprise for anyone who has been paying attention to leaks and rumors, because Fire Red and Leaf Green ports have been one of the most consistent predictions for Pokemon Day 2026. The difference this time is that the confirmation did not come from dataminers, leakers, or a major outlet. It came from Pokemon themselves, accidentally.
THEY MESSED UP! Pokemon Reveals FireRed Early + 25 MINUTE Presents Confirmed for Pokemon Day 2026!
The release timing is the most important part.
Fire Red and Leaf Green are set to drop at the conclusion of the Pokemon Presents on Friday, February 27th, during the Pokemon Day presentation. The start time is:
9:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time
6:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time
The big question now is whether Fire Red and Leaf Green still stay in the Pokemon Presents, or whether Pokemon cuts that segment down since it is already public. The original expectation was that it would be a big mid-show moment where the message is basically, “It is out now, download it when this ends.” That moment still works, but it is not the same surprise anymore.

If Pokemon is reselling these games and they do really well, it opens the door for more ports later. Right now, there is information out there claiming Pokemon is not planning on doing anything else beyond Fire Red and Leaf Green, but that could change quickly if sales are strong.
It is also still surprising that they are starting with Fire Red and Leaf Green specifically, but Pokemon has been going all-in on Kanto. They have been tweeting about being in their Kanto era, and this announcement fits that theme perfectly.
The bigger question is what comes next. Is this the beginning of older games coming back one by one, or is this a one-off?
Another reveal tied to today’s news cycle is a sneak peek and release date for Pokemon Horizons Season 3 Part 2.
It is coming to Netflix on March 20th.
This matters because it raises another question: is Pokemon Day going to include more Horizons and anime announcements, or is this the only Horizons update around Pokemon Day?
If there is no major anime news during Pokemon Day, it could mean Pokemon is saving something bigger for later in the year. If there is major anime news, it could mean a bigger shift is coming alongside Gen 10.
Pokemon also officially announced the Pokemon Presents for Pokemon Day. Everybody already expected it, but they always do the official announcement and confirm it is part of the February 27th celebration for Pokemon Day and the 30th anniversary.
The bigger detail is the runtime. There is a rumor, or possibly a confirmation from another platform, that the presentation is about 25 minutes.
That number feels a little short, especially for the 30th anniversary. It also explains why Pokemon might be getting a lot of smaller announcements out of the way early, so the Presents can stay focused and packed.
The concern is what the 25 minutes actually looks like. If too much of that runtime is spent on quick updates for older and live service games, it could feel rushed. If it is a condensed, jam-packed show focused on the biggest announcements, then 25 minutes can work.
If Fire Red and Leaf Green were originally meant to be a big surprise, that surprise is now gone. So the big question becomes: what is the real “wow” moment now?
For anyone not locked into leaks and rumors, Gen 10 is still going to be mindblowing. But there is still the possibility of another secret announcement in the mix, especially with how much Pokemon has been pushing out early: collaborations, merchandise, and other ecosystem updates being handled ahead of time.
It still feels like they are clearing the runway so Pokemon Day can focus on the biggest things.
Fire Red and Leaf Green being confirmed this way is pretty funny, because it is not the usual “leakers beat Pokemon to it” moment. Pokemon leaked themselves.
Now the focus shifts to Pokemon Day and what can realistically fit into a 25-minute Presents, especially with Fire Red and Leaf Green already public.
A 25-minute show can absolutely work if it is tight, focused, and loaded with meaningful reveals. If it is not, it risks feeling like it is cutting away too quickly from the biggest announcements.
