How to Wake Up Snorlax in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen

If you’re playing the updated Nintendo Switch release of Pokémon FireRed or LeafGreen and you’ve run into a giant Snorlax blocking the road, don’t worry — this is completely intentional. You’re not stuck. You just need the right item.

How to Get the Poké Flute in FireRed and LeafGreen

To wake up Snorlax, you need the Poké Flute in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. Here’s exactly how to get it.

• First, progress through the story until you reach Lavender Town. Inside Pokémon Tower, you’ll initially be blocked by a ghost.
  • To identify it, you need the Silph Scope, which you obtain after clearing the Rocket Hideout in Celadon City and defeating Giovanni.
• Once you have the Silph Scope, return to Pokémon Tower and climb to the top. After completing the tower events, you’ll rescue Mr. Fuji. He’ll take you to his house in Lavender Town and reward you with the Poké Flute.

Now head back to either Snorlax location (Route 12 or Route 16), open your Key Items, and use the Poké Flute while standing in front of it. Snorlax will wake up and attack — and this is your only chance to catch it.

Save your game before interacting. Snorlax does not respawn.
