The world of VGC or Competitive Pokemon is changing dramatically in 2026. Some argue for the better, others are worried. Pokemon Champions is bringing with it a lot of changes, but one of the biggest ones is called Victory Points. Here is how you can earn VP in Pokemon Champions.
*Note: Once the game releases, this will be updated with more information on VP.
To earn VP in Pokemon Champions, you will have to be ready to battle. While it has not been seen in-game yet, here is what the official website says about VP.
“Victory Points (VP) can be gained from Ranked Battles and other places in Pokémon Champions. You’ll need VP to recruit and train Pokémon.
VP cannot be directly purchased, so keep battling and gaining VP to power up your team even more!”
This means that the more you battle, the more you will earn VP. How much you earn for each battle is unclear at this point. Whether it is tied to winning or not will be extremely interesting. This could certainly be something that turns newer players away.

This is potentially the most important decision that Pokemon has made with this game.
If they made it pay to win since VP can be used for purchasing Pokemon and their stats, that would certainly have made everyone mad. This was seen to some degree with Pokemon Unite so it is good that they learned their lessons from that situation.
The hope will be that this continues as the game is released. While the game will be free, there will be in-game purchases. What those are is also currently unknown but once the game releases, we will quickly learn how The Pokemon Company intends to earn money with Champions.
