If you’re playing the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen and want to catch Entei, your ability to do so depends entirely on the starter Pokémon you chose at the beginning of your save file.
In FireRed & LeafGreen, only one of the three Legendary Beasts appears per game.
Entei will begin roaming Kanto only if you choose Bulbasaur as your starter Pokémon.
To trigger Entei’s appearance, you must:
Defeat the Elite Four and become Champion
Receive the National Pokédex
Complete the Sevii Islands side quest
Help Celio repair the Network Machine
After completing these requirements, Entei will start roaming randomly across Kanto at Level 50.
Entei does not stay in a fixed location. Each time you change routes, it moves to a different area. The fastest way to track it is by checking its location in the Pokédex and then moving between connected routes to force it to shift positions.

Be prepared: Entei will attempt to flee immediately. Use moves like Mean Look or abilities such as Arena Trap to prevent escape, or inflict Sleep on the first turn if your Pokémon is fast enough.
If you picked Charmander or Squirtle, Entei will not appear in your save file, and trading is the only way to obtain it.
Catching Entei in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen on Nintendo Switch requires planning — and the right starter choice from day one.
