How to Evolve Graveler in Pokémon FireRed LeafGreen: Nintendo Switch

Publish Date: February 27, 2026

If you’ve got a Graveler on your team in the Nintendo Switch release of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen and you’re wondering why it’s not evolving, here’s the simple answer: Graveler does not evolve by level. Graveler evolves into Golem only through trading, so here’s a quick guide on how to get that Golem you’ve been after.

How to Get Golem in FireRed & LeafGreen

To evolve Graveler into Golem in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, you need to trade it to another player. Once the trade is completed, Graveler will immediately evolve during the trade animation.

Here’s how to do it on Nintendo Switch:

  1. Connect with another player locally or through supported online features.

  2. Initiate a trade.

  3. Trade your Graveler to the other player.

  4. It will evolve into Golem automatically.

  5. Have the other player trade it back to you.

That last step is important — otherwise, they’re keeping your Golem.

There is no evolution stone, no special item, and no level requirement. If you’re playing solo without trading access, Graveler will remain a Graveler permanently.

Pro tip: If you’re planning a full playthrough team, try to arrange a trusted trade partner early so you’re not stuck waiting to evolve key Pokémon like Graveler, Kadabra, Haunter, or Machoke.
