The world of VGC or Competitive Pokemon is changing dramatically in 2026. Some argue for the better, others are worried. Part of this has to do with the changing of how to align a Pokemon’s Stats. Here is how EVs and IVs will work in Pokemon Champions.
Whether you are new or a veteran in the VGC for Pokemon, EVs and IVs are something that everyone has to know and understand.
They are what make your Pokemon be able to battle at its best. It is also what has allowed for metas to shift and champions to be made. Something as simple as stat changes has often been very complex and confusing for newer players, especially.
With Pokemon Champions, all of this is changing.

From now on, everything will be complied into Victory Points and Stat Points. There is an official explanation from the Pokemon Champions website below.
“Tailor your team’s skills in the training feature of Pokémon Champions. By using VP, you can hone your Pokémon’s Attack, Defense, and other stats. You can even alter their Abilities and moves. Customize your team to match your battle style, though remember that you can’t train Pokémon during their Trial Recruitment period.”
Basically everything has been simplified in order to help make the barrier to entry lower.
Everything on Pokemon Champions seemingly can be boiled down to Victory Points.
They will be how you get new Pokemon, how you change your Stat Points, Natures (Now Stat Alignment), Abilities and Moves. All of these changes will be assigned a value and once you have made them, you will have to pay whatever VP amount that comes out to.
You can see that in the image below on this Gardevoir.

While details on this are limited, from the image that is seen above, there will seemingly be limted Stat Points.
Like how EVs and IVs worked, this would make sense. If that limit will remain at 66 is currently unknown. What you can see though is that 32 looks to be the highest a Stat will go with Stat Points. That being said, Natures (Stat Alignment) will still affect these as they did in the past.
To a certain degree, this feels exactly like it has for competitive Pokemon players. Especially those who have played on websites like Pokemon Showdown in the past.
For now at least, it looks like the long hours of training are done.
Instead you will be battling on the ladder and using the convienent new tools of VP and SP to get your Pokemon ready for competition. The hope will be that these changes are not too jarring for old fans, but it will certainly bring in a whole new crop of players once the game launches in 2026.
